They carried signs made from empty cereal boxes and leftover pieces of cardboard. They chanted about air pollution from the steps of the Capitol. They rode bikes to power their speaker system so they could read aloud letters they’d written to politicians and talk about fossil fuels and push for better recycling.
These students came of age in a world that’s been getting warmer each year since they were born. And on Friday morning, hundreds of them walked out of their schools as part of a worldwide youth strike to demand action against climate change.
“It’s so important to be out here taking action for our community,” said Izzy Allen, a senior at Brighton High School.
