The commissioner of higher education for Utah announced Tuesday that he will step down at the end of year.
David Buhler’s decision comes at the tail end of a major shuffling of presidents at universities across the state as he led the board that chose the replacements.
“After more than 19 years in the Utah System of Higher Education, over seven of those as commissioner, my family and I concluded it’s time to begin a new chapter in our lives,” he said. “I believe change is good for organizations and individuals, and I am looking forward to returning to teaching at the University of Utah in 2020.
