Sophomore forward Niyah Becker posted a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds Monday night as the Utah women’s basketball team earned its first victory of the season, 87-49 over Eastern Washington at the Huntsman Center.
Utah beat EWU 95-51 on the road last November. This month, the Eagles (0-3) lost 92-27 at Stanford. Even while playing an overmatched opponent, though, the Utes (1-3) were happy to win after opening the season with losses at Cincinnati and Xavier and falling at home to South Dakota in overtime Saturday.
Utah took a 45-26 halftime lead as coach Lynne Roberts stuck with her recent approach of using two five-player groups.
