PROVO — Utah State sophomore golfer Andy Hess shot an opening round 2-under-par 70 and finished tied for 46th place at 4-over 220 (70-74-76) at the BYU-hosted PING Cougar Classic held here at the par-72, 7,142-yard Riverside Country Club.
Hess’ opening round 70 was his sixth round under par this season and the 10th of his career.
As a team, Utah State finished in 15th place at 30-over 894 (299-296-299). BYU won the team championship with a 24-under 840 (281-279-280), while the Cougars’ Peter Kuest took medalist honors with a 17-under-par 199 (64-66-69).
Other finishers for Utah State included junior Chase Lansford, who tied for 60th place at 8-over 224 (75-77-72), freshman Cameron Tucker, who also tied for 60th place at 8-over 224 (76-69-79), sophomore Colten Cordingley, who tied for 76th place at 13-over 229 (78-76-75) and junior Hayden Eckert, who tied for 86th place at 16-over 232 (79-77-76).
