ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. —Utah State women's tennis (9-8, 0-1 MW) lost its conference opener, 5-2, to New Mexico (9-8, 2-1) on Friday afternoon at the McKinnon Family Tennis Stadium.
"I thought we came out and did a good job in doubles today and played smart and enthusiastic and took the point,” said head coach Sean McInerney. "In singles, we didn't maintain the required movement and positive energy that is needed to beat good conference teams on the road. We will regroup and take on a very good Air Force team on Sunday."
Utah State won the doubles point as sophomore Alexandra Pisareva and freshman Sidnee Lavatai won at the top spot, 6-3, while freshman Annaliese County and junior Lucy Octave cruised to a 6-2 victory at the third position.
