Utah Royals beat Washington Spirit 2-0 for first win in club history

Royals winger Diana Matheson started the counterattack for both Royals goals in a 2-0 win over the Washington Spirit Saturday. Utah claimed its first-ever win with goals by both of its starting wingers, Matheson and Kelley O’Hara.

Matheson was patient as she hovered in between two Washington Spirit players in the seventh minute, and when she saw her moment, she was precise. Matheson side tacked the ball out from under Washington defender Caprice Dydasco’s feet. Matheson popped up, pulled the ball back and sent a long ball to Amy Rodriguez.

The Royals striker settled it with a chest trap and turned.
