Utah Legislature to consider $1M-plus payout to former AG Jon Swallow, who was acquitted of corruption charges

Former Utah Attorney General John Swallow is poised to recoup the costs of his 2017 trial on corruption charges when state lawmakers convene in special session on Sept. 16.

Richard Piatt, spokesman for Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, confirmed Friday that negotiations on a settlement are ongoing with Swallow’s legal team, but declined to comment further. Swallow — who resigned as attorney general in 2013 — just one year into his four-year term — was acquitted of corruption-related charges and later sued the state for roughly $1.5 million in attorneys fees.

Swallow told Fox 13 on Friday that he expects to settle with the state for $1.
