Utah football: Senior Kendal Thompson was ready to contribute under tough circumstances

SALT LAKE CITY — Coaches are fond of telling players to be ready to play at any time.

An opportunity could come when they’re ready for it. It can come when it’s least expected.

No one knows that better than Utah senior quarterback Kendal Thompson.

“That’s just part of the game,” said Thompson, who took over for injured starter Travis Wilson with about seven minutes left in the second quarter of Utah’s 24-14 win over Utah State. “It’s what we signed up for. Football is a very physical sport.”

Thompson said he enjoyed being back on the field and maybe appreciated it just a little more after the long rehab he endured after a knee injury in last year's Oregon game ended his season.
