Utah State football held its sixth spring practice Tuesday afternoon on Merlin Olsen Field at Maverik Stadium, and the running backs group is using its returning experience to develop competitiveness.
Utah State returns three running backs from last season who have combined to play in 77 games with 24 starts during their careers. In fact, USU returns 88.6 percent (364/411) of its rushing attempts, 87.1 percent (1,783/2,046) of its rushing yards and 88.0 percent (22/25) of its rushing touchdowns from a season ago.
"Just like the rest of the offense we are learning a new system, and it’s a fairly simplistic system to learn, so things are progressing really well,” said special teams coordinator and running backs coach Mark Tommerdahl.
