University of Utah President Ruth Watkins took questions Monday from faculty and students for the first time since Lauren McCluskey was killed on campus nearly a year ago last fall — though she declined to get into the specifics about police discipline.
The U. police has largely been the focus of criticisms following the murder of McCluskey, a 21-year-old track athlete, who tried to report that she was being harassed but got little response from the officers on the force. Since then, some have questioned whether the campus officers can be trusted to handle cases, particularly those involving threats against women.
