Several said there should be no tuition hikes at all. Others argued that a few schools could request more money.
In the end, after two days of intense back-and-forth, the board members that oversee tuition increases in Utah approved some of the lowest increases for the state’s public colleges in the last decade.
Still, the Utah Board of Regents did not make any adjustments to what each university proposed — which it has been criticized for doing. Dixie State University requested and received the highest hike at 5 percent. And Southern Utah University, the lowest, asked for no increase in tuition.
