Thunderbirds' upset bid foiled by late Aggie punt return

Southern Utah's upset bid at Utah State was undone when Aggie Andrew Rodriquez took a Thunderbird punt 82 yards for a score and a 12-9 victory for Utah State.

After playing well and leading for most of their road opener at Utah State, Southern Utah’s upset bid unraveled in the blink of an eye.

Leading 9-5 with just under five minutes remaining, Utah State’s Andrew Rodriquez took an SUU punt at his own 18 and used his blockers while racing 82 yards for a touchdown that dumped Southern Utah’s upset bid, 12-9.

“Our guys came in here expecting to win and they’re devastated right now,” Ed Lamb, Southern Utah coach, said.
