State submits small-scale Medicaid expansion plan to feds — again

The fate of Utah’s Medicaid expansion plan extending coverage to about 6,000 of the state’s neediest childless adults is now in the hands of the Trump administration.

State officials say they hope the expansion plan gets approved in time to begin enrolling Jan. 1, 2018.

Utah officials submitted the plan, which would cover childless adults who are chronically homeless or in need of mental health or drug addiction treatment, late Tuesday night.

This is Utah’s second attempt to expand health coverage to this population after the Utah Legislature last year passed — and Gov. Gary Herbert signed — a small-scale plan.
