The San Juan County clerk is investigating a Navajo candidate running for an open commission seat, accusing him of not being a Utah resident and threatening criminal charges.
“This complaint originated from a citizen concerned that [Willie] Grayeyes’ primary residence is not in San Juan County, but rather Arizona,” reads a statement issued by the county Thursday. “While looking into this issue, we have received information that would support this citizen complaint and have requested Mr. Grayeyes to prove his eligibility to be a candidate for office.”
Grayeyes, who won the Democratic nomination for the race last month, said the allegations are false.
