Provo • Hundreds of people of various faiths bowed their heads together as Imam Sami Aziz prayed in Brigham Young University’s Conference Center on Wednesday.
His prayer kicked off BYU’s Religious Freedom Annual Review, a two-day conference that has drawn more than 450 attendees and 70 speakers from across the globe.
Elder Patrick Kearon, a member of the Presidency of the Seventy for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, opened the gathering with a speech about the responsibilities and civic duties that are inseparable from religious freedom.
Kearon, who was born in the United Kingdom and has lived in many countries around the world, cautioned against forgetting the sacrifices and hardships that went into creating and defining the religious freedoms that Americans enjoy today.
