Politicians, including Trump, mark MLK Jr. holiday with appeals to black voters and commemoration of the civil rights leader

Democratic presidential aspirants fanned out across the country Monday to praise the legacy of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and offer direct appeals to black voters who will play a major role in deciding on a nominee to challenge President Donald Trump.

Former Vice President Joe Biden and former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg called for more racial justice and poverty reduction Monday. Two other potential candidates, Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Cory Booker, D-N.J., sat side by side in the front, middle pew at Zion Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, for their Martin Luther King Day prayer service Monday morning.
