Police in Salt Lake County say they have break in 1979 homicide of man in wheelchair

On Jan. 5, 1979, a Salt Lake County Sheriff’s deputy responded to address in Holladay. The deputy found Jack Richardson, 54, in his wheelchair, dead from a gunshot to his head.

Detectives later determined a robbery was the motive for the shooting. The case has never been solved.

On Friday, the sheriff’s office and its Unified Police Department will explain to reporters how there’s been a new discovery in the case. The news conference is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at the sheriff’s office in South Salt Lake.

According to a cold case website maintained by the state of Utah, it was suspected Richardson answered the door of his home, and he was confronted by several suspects planning to rob the home.
