Mountain West basketball: San Jose State living up to promise of big improvement

Mountain West notes » After going 2-28 a year ago, Spartans already have eight wins this season, including three vs. league foes.

San Jose State basketball coach Dave Wojcik wasn't lying.

I talked to Wojcik a year ago, when the Spartans were midway through what turned out to be a disastrous season. They finished 2-28, including 0-18 in the Mountain West Conference.

San Jose didn't beat a Division I opponent.

The Spartans lost at Boise by 50 points.

Suspensions and injuries crushed them.

After suffering a 61-33 loss at Utah State, then-Aggie coach Stew Morrill said, "I feel bad for them — the situation they're in.
