‘Madam Secretary’ will be president of the United States when the show returns in October

When “Madame Secretary” returns to CBS for its final season in the fall, the show should probably have a new title — “Madame President.”

In May, Season 6 ended with Elizabeth McCord (Tea Leoni) declaring her candidacy for president. When Season 7 begins on Sunday, Oct. 6, she will be in the Oval Office, the newly elected chief executive.

“We have not announced anything, but we are doing about a two-year time jump,” Amy Reisenbach, CBS' executive vice president of current affairs, told The Salt Lake Tribune. “When we come back, Elizabeth will be president. It will be about 100 days into her presidency.
