The Lone Peak Knights won the Class 6A title Friday evening by topping rival American Fork 34-29 at Rice-Eccles Stadium. It’s Lone Peak’s first state championship since 2011.
Lone Peak’s Masen Wake provided the early punctuation. The senior running back shrugged off as many five American Fork defenders on the first play of the fourth quarter as he rumbled 40 yards into the end zone to give the Knights a 31-20 lead.
American Fork took its first lead of the game midway through the third quarter when quarterback Boone Abbott found receiver Devin Downing in the back of the end zone, putting the Cavemen up 17-16.
