Letter: Utah schoolchildren are safe in their fortresses, but there’s no money left to educate them

I’m sure I’m not the only one who, upon reading the article about the metal security door built as a prototype for the Rose Springs Elementary School, responded with disbelief and a heavy heart.

“Pretty impressive,” says our governor, and yes, it is. Impressive as a symbol of the violence in our society and the fear we will further ingrain in our children.

Surely, the “hundreds of thousands of dollars” per school would be better spent on combating gun violence, and perhaps more guidance counselors, with money left for education, which our Legislature continues to ignore, keeping us locked in the steel room of last in funding in the U.
