Fellow taxpayers: Have you calculated your personal benefits resulting from the Republican tax cuts? On the assumption that my total 2018 income will be equivalent to that of 2017, I will enjoy a tax-break equal to a 0.8 percent cost-of-living adjustment.
My initial response: I will put this tax-break windfall into my piggy bank. There it will remain as a hedge against the time when GOP legislators slash my Social Security and Medicare benefits.
On further reflection: GOP munificence is projected to increase the national debt by $1 trillion to $1.5 trillion. If, as a result of the 2018 midterm elections, I get something approximating the government we all deserve, I just might donate my windfall to the federal government — earmarked for reduction of the national debt.
