Investigators are trying to learn who shot a bull elk near Escalante, where it was “left to waste,” Utah wildlife officials said.
The elk was killed between Oct. 19 and 22 about 9 miles west of Escalante on State Road 12, state wildlife officials wrote in a news statement.
The poacher “most likely shot the animal from the highway and then made a U-turn to leave the area,” state wildlife officials wrote.
