Students at Bryant Middle School appear to be trying to stage a walkout to protest the recent firing of a teacher’s aide.
According to a news release from the Salt Lake City Brown Berets, the students want the teacher’s aide reinstated and are “demanding the teaching of Chicano studies as well as teacher evaluations by students." The group has its roots in a movement begun by Chicanos in California in the 1960s and now advocates against oppression and exploitation.
Two students came out of the school just before 10 a.m. and held signs provided by the Brown Berets.
