LOGAN — Wild Bill Sproat, once featured on ESPN wearing a coconut bra and grass skirt, has been absent from the front row for a few years. All that’s left is the faint scent of coconut oil. When he does attend Utah State basketball games nowadays, he arrives like any other spectator, having retired his “Chippendales” and “Nacho Libre” costumes.
The best student spirit group in the West has dwindled, too. The Hurd, widely known for its creative chants, is down to a moderate roar. Overall attendance at games is at about half capacity.
But the biggest reason the Spectrum isn’t a madhouse anymore is that the Aggies have been hard to recognize.
