Friday might be the last time Utah State and Utah play one another in football. One more trip down the freeway, to meet for the 112th time — the longest-running series for either school.
They were one another’s first opponent when they met in 1892. Only 13 other rivalries have played as many games and just seven began before this one. Yet no future games are scheduled.
Too bad. They were just getting warmed up.
Where Friday’s game stands out is that it’s among the most important games — against anyone — in Aggie history. USU has made major strides in recent years, moving to the Mountain West and becoming a bowl regular.
