Ben McAdams was sworn into the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday, becoming Utah’s only Democrat in Congress.
The former Salt Lake County mayor defeated two-term Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, by a razor-thin margin in the November election that wasn’t called until two weeks after the voting ended.
McAdams, a self-styled moderate, is expected to calculate every vote he takes in order to survive a Republican challenge in two years. He has the advantage of being the only Utahn in the House majority.
