Utah Jazz: Thurl Bailey, 1983 N.C. State Team Finally Visiting White House

Whenever a team wins a major championship in American sports, like the NCAA basketball championship, that team usually visits the White House where its members meet the President of the United States. Utah Jazz legend Darrell Griffith and the 1980 Louisville Cardinals made the trip. So too did Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas and the 1981 Indiana Hoosiers.

This wasn’t the case in 1983, when former Jazz star Thurl Bailey and the North Carolina State Wolfpack won said title.

After upsetting a Houston Cougars team led by the Phi Slama Jama duo of Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon in one of the most thrilling finishes in NCAA Tournament history, they received the invite, but were unable to fund the trip.
