Basketball, and building basketball teams, is not that complicated. There are five guys on a court at a time and one of them needs to be an MVP or MVP-caliber player to be an actual championship contender. To win a championship you need a second player to be an all-NBA player to play off of them. If you’re not in that group of teams that fit that definition, your #1 goal should be getting those players.
The last two seasons have left people wondering what in the world is the goal of this front office. After they made the Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell trades two seasons ago, they made a few other moves but sat on their hands with players like Mike Conley, Jarred Vanderbilt, and Malik Beasley.
