Following a week of play at EuroBasket 2017, the tournament’s knockout stage tipped off on Saturday in Istanbul, Turkey. Although Rudy Gobert opted not to suit up for his native France, the Utah Jazz continued to be well-represented in the 40th edition of FIBA’s European championship.
Jazz point guard Ricky Rubio and Spain will take the court on Sunday. Meanwhile, the weekend began with assistant coach Igor Kokoskov and former Jazzman Boris Diaw in action for the Round of 16.
One would advance to the tourney quarterfinals; the other is headed home.
Despite a rough night for EuroBasket MVP candidate and Miami Heat guard Goran Dragic, Kokoskov’s Slovenian crew whipped Ukraine to the tune of 24 points, moving on to the tourney quarterfinals with a 79-55 win.
