After 16 days of the passion and pageantry that comes with international basketball’s most important tournament, the Olympic Games, medals were awarded to the three best teams in the hoops tournament at Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. Unfortunately for Utah Jazz swingman Joe Ingles, the Australian national team failed to make the podium.
Ingles and the Aussies faced a tall task coming into the Bronze Medal Final–Pau Gasol, Ricky Rubio and Spain were their opponents and had entered the games in Rio as FIBA’s second-ranked team behind USA Basketball after capturing silver medals in each of the last two Olympics.
