Vince Boryla, general manager of the 1971 ABA champion Utah Stars, passed away Sunday in Colorado. He was 89. A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday morning at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Denver.
Boryla, who was a college basketball star at Notre Dame and Denver, helped the United States win a gold medal in the 1948 Olympics. He later played for and then became the head coach of the NBA’s New York Knicks. Besides his tenure in Utah, Boryla’s career as an executive included a stint as general manager of the Denver Nuggets.
