This summer was primed to be perhaps the most interesting one in NBA history, as an unprecedented $24 million spike in the salary cap thanks to a new television deal with ESPN and Turner Sports meant most teams would have gobs of money to spend during free agency.
The Utah Jazz were at an interesting point in the construction of their franchise as the cap was set to jump from $70 million to $94 million. General manager Dennis Lindsey has assembled a group of young players that has shown steady improvement over the past few years, meaning it could be argued the Jazz had no foundational needs to address in free agency unless they were unexpectedly wanting to shake things up in a major way.
