The Utah Jazz had been auditioning replacements for center Mark Eaton for four years. Having found a big man they liked in that role, the Jazz made sure he wouldnt slip away at least not for six years.
The Jazzs offseason of love continued with the signing of center Greg Ostertag to a six-year contract extension for $30 million, a substantial raise from the $573,000 salary he made the previous season.
Free agents Jeff Hornacek, Bryon Russell, Howard Eisley, Shandon Anderson and Antoine Carr all previously came to terms with the Jazz as the franchise hoped to make a return to the NBA Finals.
