With a fifth-set comeback, UTA topped UT-San Antonio 3-2 in the Women’s National Invitational Volleyball Championship Arlington Regional on Thursday at College Park Center.
It was the Mavericks’ first postseason appearance since 2002 and first postseason win since 1992. The former Southland Conference opponents had met each other 45 times prior, with the Mavericks holding a 27-18 all-time advantage and adding to it with the win.
A close match throughout, the drama unfolded in the fifth set as UTA went down 10-6 and looked beat. However, the Mavericks stormed back through crucial kills by three seniors, outside hitters Kylie Jedlicka and Petra Manderson and middle blocker Madison Hill.
