UTA track and field recaps weekend at WAC indoor championship, set sights on NCAA

UTA track and field returned from Spokane, Washington, with a strong showing in the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 28 and March 1.

Winnie Kipsang, sophomore distance runner and reigning WAC indoor freshman of the year, highlighted the Mavericks’ performance. Kipsang set a new conference record in the mile with 4:43.10, earning the gold medal.

Kipsang also won gold in the 800m with 2:07.97, while freshman distance runner Emilia Mandl took home silver with a personal record of 2:11.19. The women’s team finished fourth overall with 106 total points.

The men finished third overall with 136.
