After run-ruling their opponents all weekend, the UTA softball team (6-3) ended up on the wrong side of a pitching duel, falling short to Kent State University in the Maverick Classic finale Sunday at Allan Saxe Field.
The 1-0 loss marks UTA’s third loss of the season. All of the losses have come by two runs or less.
“We played a good team with a good pitcher on the mound,” head coach Peejay Brun said. “They capitalized when they got on base on us, and we didn't do it on our end.”
In the bottom of the second inning, Kent State’s Megan Turner reeled in the lone run of the game with an RBI single off junior pitcher Randi Phillips.
