The softball team (33-27, 17-10) extended its season after capturing its second straight National Invitational Softball Championship Regional title on Saturday.
The Mavericks played two games against McNeese State University in Nacogdoches, Texas, to decide who would advance to the next round of the tournament.
McNeese State won the first game by a score of 6-1, but UTA was able to capture the regional championship later in the day after defeating the Cowgirls by a score of 4-3 in 10 innings.
Senior outfielder Laura Curry batted .538 and drove in five runs in four games to earn the MVP honor of the regional round.
