The men's basketball team improved to 4-1 after going 2-0 in the Barclays Center Classic on Friday and Saturday in New York.
Game No. 1: UTA 89, Western Carolina University 65
The Mavericks, led by graduate student center Johnny Hamilton, never trailed during the game.
Hamilton recorded a double-double with 30 points and 15 rebounds.
Although the Mavericks tipped off the game with an early lead, Western Carolina stayed within reach as the first half ended with UTA leading 46-41.
The Mavericks pressured the Catamounts on both sides of the floor in the second half, holding them to 24 points on 29.
