The men’s tennis team had several positive takeaways from its season-opening loss at Rice University on Jan. 22.
The Mavericks used those results as fuel during their week off to prepare for a match against Cameron University.
“It was a great experience for us to start the semester,” sophomore Mauricio Del Rio said. “It was just a close match, and we were unlucky, but we showed we can play at a high level.”
Last season, the Mavericks won a record-setting 18 games and won the Sun Belt Championship as the fifth seed in the tournament.
They eventually fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to the University of Oklahoma.
