The softball team won its fall opener 13-5 over Odessa College in a 10-inning scrimmage Thursday at Allan Saxe Field.
Sophomore catcher Reagan Wright opened up the scoring in the first for the Mavericks, knocking in two runs on a stand-up double. The Mavericks would add two more runs in the inning to make it 4-0.
“We put a lot of runs on the board and everybody is just working well together, ” Wright said, finishing the game 2-3 with four RBIs.
Sophomore pitcher JoJo Valencia, a transfer from the University of the Incarnate Word, pitched five innings, allowing two runs on six hits.
