The softball team (15-25, 6-7) took on Stephen F. Austin State University in a doubleheader on Wednesday, splitting the two-game slate with the Lumberjacks.
In the first game of the day, the Mavericks opened up the scoring on a groundout RBI from freshman utility player Kaitlyn Sailor that scored a runner in the first inning. Sophomore utility player Marley Neises followed up in the next inning with a solo home run to widen the lead to 2-0 before the Lumberjacks responded in the top of the third inning with a two-out RBI single.
In the third and fourth innings, the Mavericks scored individual runs to extend their lead to 4-1.
