Senior jumper Roland Sales has been on a roll this year. He broke his personal best with a clear of 7 feet 2 1/2 inches in the high jump during the Charlie Thomas Invitational. His jump set a new school record and is tied for sixth nationally, which allows him to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Alabama.
Sales found his niche as a jumper because of a health concern.
“I had a heart condition, and my doctor didn’t want me running because it was too hard on my heart,” Sales said.
