For the second year in a row, the men's cross country team won the Sun Belt Championships Saturday in Dothan, Ala.
Senior long-distance runner Craig Lautenslager was the individual champion with an 8K run time of 24:20.9. The Mavericks won the team championship with a combined top five time of 2:05:40.
Junior long-distance runner Michael Guerrero finished second for UTA with an 8K time of 24:37.6, good for fourth overall. Lautenslager and Guerrero both missed the Sun Belt Championships in 2015, but head coach John Sauerhage said the duo was clutch for the Mavericks on Saturday.
The Mavericks third finisher did something he hadn't done all season.
