The men’s and women’s track and field teams finished their indoor track season strong at the Western Athletic Conference championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Both teams placed second overall at the meet. The women’s team’s 118-point total more than doubled their total from last year’s conference meet.
On the men’s side, sophomore thrower Hayden Wilson came away with a gold medal in the shot put, throwing 17.28 meters. His throw beat his previous personal best by 1.1 meters.
Wilson will advance to represent UTA in the NCAA indoor championships starting March 8 in Boston.
Junior sprinter Khalid Mendez got the silver in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 21.
