Trailing 6-5 in the top of the ninth inning, the Mavericks allowed seven runs and lost to Troy University 13-5 Saturday at Clay Gould Ballpark.
"I just don't get why we don't do a better job of holding the score down with the wind blowing in like it is," head coach Darin Thomas said. "It was disappointing what we did today."
Junior pitcher Jakob Hernandez threw six innings, allowing five hits and one earned run, but the Mavericks used six pitchers over the final three innings which combined to allow 11 earned runs.
"Couldn't pitch at all out of our bullpen today, and that's disappointing," Thomas said.
