For the first time in UTA history, the men’s cross country team qualified two individuals for the NCAA championships.

The Mavericks third-place performance at the NCAA South Central Regional was clinched with the help of two top individual performances in school history.

Senior long-distance runner Craig Lautenslager placed eighth in the 10K run with an individual time of 30:22.0. Lautenslager, who redshirted in 2015, said he’s strived to reached nationals since the day he stepped on campus.

“It was definitely the best day we’ve had since I’ve been here,” Lautenslager said.
