The USC Trojans are in the process of putting together the first recruiting class under head coach Clay Helton. The Trojans already have several players committed, but they aren't done yet. They're making a strong push during the last month of recruiting as we head towards National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Here's all the latest news and rumors you need to know for USC football recruiting.
Three-Star WR Commits And Then Decommits
Like any good college program, USC is already hard at work on the 2017 recruiting class in addition to the 2016 one. The Trojans picked up a commitment from three-star WR Derrick Smith Wednesday, only for him to decommit a few hours later. The recruiting world is a strange one, and is prone to confusing cases like this one. Looking for more on USC recruiting? Check out the Chat Sports Android and iPhone app!
Trojans Should Keep Three-Star WR
Velus Jones, a three-star WR, has been committed to USC since April, but has been recruited hard by schools including Oklahoma, Florida and Tennessee. However, 247Sports reports that "Jones will 'announce for USC' firming up his pledge in the next day or so." Jones hails from Alabama and is ranked as the No. 13 prospect from the state on 247Sports. No. 1 Recruit Visits USC
The nation's top recruit visited the Trojans this weekend. DT Rashan Gary is wanted by every school in the nation and is the consensus No. 1 player in the class of 2016. He enjoyed the visit to USC, according to 247Sports.
"It was great," Jennifer Coney, Gary’s mother told 247Sports. "I loved USC ... The weather, the academics are good there, the environment, the people, it was just an overall great thing. He [Rashan Gary] liked the academic support."
The Trojans have a chance at landing Gary, but Michigan is his expected destination. He's visited the school several times already and the Wolverines are the front-runner. For more news on Rashan Gary's recruitment, check out the Chat Sports Android and iPhone app.
