LOS ANGELES – USC special teams coach John Baxter is an expert the past two seasons at feeling personally invested in a huge victory and a crushing loss.
Kicker Matt Boermeester’s 46-yard goal as time expired gave the Trojans a 52-49 victory over Penn State in the Rose Bowl.
“That was a play that sort of defined our season,” Baxter said Thursday.
But if that play was memorable, ask a Michigan fan to forget what happened in 2015 when Baxter was the Wolverines’ special teams coach. Michigan led rival Michigan State, 23-21, with 10 seconds left when punter Blake O’Neill lined up for a game-sealing punt.
