LOS ANGELES >> The good news for USC’s offense is that Western Michigan’s defense cannot possibly be better than the one the Trojans faced in Saturday’s scrimmage at Howard Jones Field.
USC’s No. 1 defense dominated most of the 70-play scrimmage and did not allow the Trojans’ star-laden offense to score a touchdown.
It’s not unusual for the defense to be ahead of the offense at the outset of training camp. But after 12 practices, USC should be able to run the ball. Tailback Ronald Jones is supposed to be one of the best tailbacks in the nation and three starters return on the offensive line (Toa Lobendahn, Nico Falah, Viane Talamaivao).
